Sisters of Mercy Hospital, Zagreb — Facade Modeling & Installation Control

Facade Model + Installation ControlDeliverable
Zagreb, CroatiaLocation

The situation

Akfen İnşaat and Dost İnşaat, in consortium, are building the Sisters of Mercy Hospital (Sestre Milosrdnice) in Zagreb. The project needed accurate facade measurement and 3D modeling, plus as-built verification once cladding panels went up — confirming the installed facade actually matched the design rather than assuming it did.

The approach

Facade geometry was captured and modeled from the point cloud ahead of cladding installation, then re-scanned once panels were mounted so the as-built assembly could be checked directly against the model — the kind of installation-control pass that catches a misaligned panel before it becomes a bigger problem.

The outcome

The consortium got both a reliable facade model to build from and a real verification step confirming the installed cladding matched it, on an active, scaffolded construction site.

Questions about this project

What does "installation control" mean in this context?
A follow-up scan after facade panels are mounted, compared directly against the design model — it confirms the installed cladding is actually where it's supposed to be, not just assumed to be based on the drawings.
Why did this need two site visits — modeling, then installation control?
The facade model has to exist before cladding goes up; the installation check can only happen once it's physically mounted. Both are tied to the same control network, so they compare directly against each other.
Is this useful on any facade project, or only large consortium builds like this one?
Any project — the value scales with how costly a misaligned panel would be to fix after the fact, which is exactly why it matters most on larger, cladding-heavy builds.
Was the site still under construction during the surveys?
Yes — both the initial facade capture and the later installation check were scheduled around an active, scaffolded construction site.
Do you work directly with general contractor consortiums, or only building owners?
Either — on this project we worked directly with the contracting consortium, Akfen İnşaat and Dost İnşaat, rather than the building owner.
