Oil & Gas Processing Facility — Industrial Scan to BIM

Oil & GasSector
Industrial Scan to BIMService

The situation

A large, operational oil and gas processing facility needed accurate as-built documentation of its process equipment, piping, and structural steel — the kind of dense, safety-critical environment where a rushed or incomplete survey is most likely to show up as a clash later. Given the sensitivity of the site, this case study is deliberately kept without a named client or location.

The approach

The same Total Station and FARO workflow we use on every industrial site anchored the capture here, scheduled around active operations rather than a full shutdown — the standard approach for a live process facility.

The outcome

The client received an accurate structural and process-equipment model to support coordination and maintenance planning, without disrupting ongoing operations to get it.

Questions about this project

Why isn't this case study more specific about the client or location?
Oil and gas facilities are often subject to strict confidentiality and security requirements. We keep this one deliberately general rather than risk identifying the site.
Can you work in a live, operating refinery or processing plant?
Yes — that's the normal case for this kind of project. Capture is scheduled around active operations and safety requirements, not a full shutdown.
What makes oil and gas facilities different from other industrial sites?
Higher safety and access requirements, and usually stricter confidentiality. The underlying capture and modeling approach is the same one we use on any industrial plant.
Do you require special safety certifications to work on a site like this?
Site-specific safety inductions and PPE requirements are standard practice for us — tell us your facility's requirements before scoping and we'll confirm compatibility.
Can this be done without publicly disclosing the details of our facility?
Yes — this case study is itself an example of that: full confidentiality, an NDA where required, and no client name or identifying detail published without written permission.
