Moxy Hotel, Krefeld — As-Built 3D Model & Total Station Setting-Out

As-Built 3D Model + Setting-OutDeliverable
Krefeld, GermanyLocation

The situation

Venue International needed an accurate as-built 3D model of the Moxy Hotel in Krefeld during construction, plus precise on-site layout support: wall positions and MEP shaft openings marked directly on the slab from the design, not measured out by hand.

The approach

A FARO Focus S150 captured the as-built point cloud, registered against a Leica TS06 (3" accuracy) Total Station control network. The same Total Station was then used to set out every wall line across the project and mark shaft opening positions directly on-site, so the trades built against surveyed points instead of tape-measure offsets.

The outcome

Venue International's site team received both a reliable as-built reference model and physically marked wall and shaft positions on the slab — removing the layout guesswork that otherwise costs time mid-construction.

Questions about this project

What is "setting-out," and why does a construction site need it?
It's the process of physically marking real-world positions — wall lines, shaft openings — on the actual slab, based on the design, using a Total Station rather than a tape measure. It's what lets trades build to the design's real coordinates instead of accumulating small measurement errors floor by floor.
Why use both a FARO scanner and a Total Station on the same project?
The FARO Focus S150 captured the dense as-built point cloud for the 3D model; the Leica TS06 Total Station handled the precise, point-by-point setting-out on-site — two different jobs, two different tools, tied to the same control network.
What accuracy does a TS06 Total Station deliver?
A 3-second angular-accuracy instrument — precise enough for construction-grade setting-out of wall lines and shaft openings.
Was this done during active construction?
Yes — the as-built capture and the setting-out work both happened while the building was under construction, coordinated around the site's own schedule.
Can setting-out be requested without a full 3D model, or vice versa?
Yes — setting-out and as-built modeling are scoped independently; tell us which one, or both, your project needs.
