RMSE (Root Mean Square Error)
RMSE is a statistical measure of the average distance between corresponding points in two datasets, used in scanning to quantify how well a registration fits its control network.
A lower registration RMSE means the point cloud is more tightly anchored to the real-world control points — on our projects, registration RMSE typically stays at or below 3 mm against the Total Station network.
