Multi-Storey Residential Building — Three Outputs, One Capture
The situation
A multi-storey residential building needed to serve three different downstream uses at once: a lightweight reference for early-stage visualization, a coordination-grade surface model, and a dimensioned massing model — three different teams, three different tools, none of them willing to pay for detail they didn't need.
The approach
Rather than re-scanning for each use case, we captured the building once and processed the same registered point cloud three ways: a decimated visualization mesh, a cleaned coordination surface, and a massing-level BIM model with dimension lines. This is the Need-LOD philosophy in its most literal form — one capture, three levels of detail, no accuracy lost between them because they all trace back to the same source data.
The outcome
Each team got exactly the format its workflow needed, from a single site visit — no second mobilization, no re-registration, no drift between the three deliverables.
