DN Warehouse Storage Area, Cluj — LOD 300 Scan to BIM for Automation Design
The situation
DN, in Cluj, Romania, needed an accurate LOD 300 BIM model of a warehouse storage building. It was the baseline an automation contractor would design a storage system against, so every clearance and structural dimension had to be real, not assumed from the original drawings.
The approach
The empty warehouse was captured with our standard Leica Total Station and FARO Focus workflow before the automation design work began, registering the full structural steel frame — columns, roof trusses, purlins — into a single point cloud. We modeled the structure to LOD 300 from there: precise enough for the automation contractor to coordinate equipment layout and clearances directly against it.
The outcome
The automation design team worked from a model that matched the building as actually built, not the original structural drawings. That removed the risk of a clearance conflict turning up only after equipment installation had started.
